The longest animation I've done so far, for my research project in the senior year of high school. Here's how I described it in 2003: |
ABSTRACT: I planned, wrote, storyboarded, and then animated a short action film, initially planning for it to be between five and ten minutes in length. The plot follows a fugitive character who is forced to escape from authority figures through the rooftops, alleys, and streets of a city at night. I used 3D Studio MAX for the character modeling and animation, along with other supplementary programs, such as Adobe Photoshop for designing textures. During the planning and modeling stages I found out how to take advantage of 3D Studio Max and its built-in capabilities. The animation incorporated my previous knowledge of, and subsequent research on realistic movement and kinetics of human beings, a slightly loose approach to physics to allow for more interesting encounters between the characters, some city architecture principles, and other effects such as animating cloth movement and explosions. I also studied storytelling and filmmaking techniques to help the animation draw in and hold the viewer’s interest. The soundtrack chosen was the song "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead (© 1997 EMI Records Ltd.), which at six and a half minutes helped establish a definite length for the film. |
The film itself is only two minutes as opposed to the proposed six-and-a-half, just because there wasn't enough time to complete it. It features an explosion, breaking glass, motion blur, cloth dynamics, muzzle flashes and other effects. The early test animations are below, at the bottom of the page. |

| That's right, you can climb up a standing man's body like a staircase and then snap his neck with your feet. Also available in a cool translucent version. |
